VW Arteon Price and Specs
Goodbye VW CC, hello VW Arteon. VW's new mid-size coupy sedan creation looks like an Audi TT that's been having Smart fortwos for dinner. Volkswagen follows Honda Accord's "speedback" design cue, meaning the flat trunk door may be going out of style. The Arteon has a sloping hatchback-style rear door, complete with a cargo cover, and a wheelbase 5 inches greater than the CC's. It's sporty, forward-postured and has large 18" or 20" wheels.
Looking for innovation? Something new? There's a plate on the Arteon's grill that can be removed if you need to fit a license plate on the front of the vehicle. If you don't, the plate can be replaced to look like it's part of the grill. And we'll call the "speedback" an innovation too. It's really just a hatchback but it's a much flatter rear door that makes for a roomy cargo area.
Moving inside, we find an 8" touch screen next to the Arteon's virtual gauges. The look is modern and sleek, like a typical Audi vehicle. The infotainment system is compatible with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, which is nice, and there is a dedicated rear climate control console.
Volkswagen succeeds in making the Arteon look fast but does it travel fast? Yes. Yes, it does. In fact, it can get from 0-60 mph in about 3 seconds with the help of its 2-liter turbocharged engine, 7-speed transmission and launch control. That's the only engine currently available in the US, but you have the option of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Another category of features that must be strong in every luxury vehicle is safety tech. The Arteon delivers in that category. It has adaptive cruise control, adaptive headlights that aim around the curves, and an alert system that tries to wake you up when you've nodded off. The car will eventually stop itself if you don't grab the wheel.
The Arteon is designed to compete with luxury brands like BMW and Audi, and lower-priced sporty vehicles like the Kia Stinger. The look fits the job description. The engine fits the job description. Things like frameless windows help. The interior of the vehicle is a bit of question mark, though. It looks great but it might not give you the refined feel you're looking for if you're used to driving an Audi or Mercedes. But, it does outdo the Acura TLX and similar vehicles, we think.
You should be able to take an Arteon home for a little over $30,000. The best way to ensure you're getting a good deal is to compare local price quotes. You can simply accept the best offer or go to another dealer and ask if they can beat it.
